What Do You Mean ‘If’?

Scripture: 21 Jesus turned to the father and asked, “How long has your son been tormented like this?” “Since childhood,” he replied, 22 ”It tries over and over to kill him by throwing him into the fire or water. But please, if you’re able to do something, anything – have compassion on us. And help us!” 23 Jesus said to him, “What do you mean ‘if?’ If you are able to believe, all things are possible to the believer.” 24 When he heard this, the boy’s father cried out with tears, saying, “I do believe, Lord, help my little faith!” (Mark 9:21-24 The Passion) If is such a small word, but carries so much weight in its importance. When there is an ‘if’ in our belief, there is probably doubt. This father wanted so much for his son to be delivered, but it was a big job and so he said, “If you are able.” Jesus responded with all things are possible and the father rose from his doubt and believed and asked for help with his little faith. A little faith can go a long way. Father, that is my prayer today, “Help my little faith.” You have shown Yourself so faithful in my life and for my family. We believe and will continue to believe. AMEN My God, You never forget to show us Your love and faithfulness. You stand behind Your people and we give You praise. Psalm 98
