To Whom Would We Go
Scripture:
66 At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. 67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you going to leave, too?” 68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe them, and we know you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.” 71 He was speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who would betray him. (John 6:66-71 NLT)
The people were so eager to see Jesus perform miracles! The religious leaders followed, and watched, only to try to catch him up saying something that they would consider wrong. How frustrating that must have been! But then how different is it today? Not much. People seem to be so quick to follow something that gives them excitement! Peter said, “Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life. We believe them, and we know you are the Holy One of God.” Even to think about not believing in Jesus; to turn from Him, is something that I cannot even fathom. I have to say with Peter: “To whom would I go?” I cannot imagine life without the Lord; without someone to depend on. I remember thinking to myself when Jim was in Viet Nam: “How do the wives that do not know the Lord survive this?”
Thank You, Lord, that I have You in my life; that I can always depend on You. You are my hope, and I trust You with my life. AMEN
O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. You both precede and follow me. Psalm 139
