Servant Leader

Scripture: 24 The disciples bickered over which one of them would be considered the greatest in the kingdom. 25 Jesus interrupted their argument, saying, “The kings and men of authority in this world rule oppressively over their subjects, claiming that they do it for the good of the people. They are obsessed with how others see them. 26 But this is not your calling. You will lead by a different model. The greatest one among you will live as one called to serve others without honor. The greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one who has a servant heart. 27 The leaders who are served are the most important in your eyes, but in the kingdom, it is the servants who lead. Am I not here with you as one who serves you? (Luke 22:24-27 The Passion) I believe that this was probably one of the hardest lessons for the disciples to grasp; and probably for us as well. The disciples were always trying to reach for the place of honor and arguing over who that should be. But Jesus said they/we should lead by a different model…lead by serving. I’ve heard people say things like, “But if I clean toilets, how will people know how important I am?” God has called us first of all to serve and then lead. Lord, help me, help us to first of all serve; to serve our families, to serve those whom we lead, to serve those in need. You came to serve and show us the way. Thank You. AMEN I delight to fulfill Your will, my God, for Your living words are written upon the pages of my heart. I will tell about Your faithfulness and kindness and proclaim Your extravagant love.
