No Longer Slaves

Scripture:

4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because you Gentiles have become his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father. 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, everything he has belongs to you. (Galatians 4:4-7 NLT)

God sent his Son to buy us out of slavery to the law. And yet, the Galatians found it easier to fall back to being slaves to the law. All that God had for them was right there; available to them as children of God. Our daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Philip have adopted Jesse Taylor Smith into their/our family. If Jesse would choose not to accept all the love, all the privileges that he now has, it would be so foolish! I remember when the judge signed the papers making Jesse legally theirs, he said, “It is now as if he was born into your family”. When they got his birth certificate after that, it was stated that way. God says to me, “It is now as if I was born into God’s family”.

Father, thank You for natural adoption, and that You gave our family our Jesse Boy. But thank You even more that You make it possible for us to no longer be slaves to the law, or to the world. Thank You that I can call You Father. AMEN
