Give With Pure Motives
Scripture:
1 Examine your motives to make sure you’re not showing off when you do your good deeds, only to be admired by others; otherwise, you will lose the reward of your heavenly Father. 2 So when you give to the poor, don’t announce it and make a show of it just to be seen by people, like the hypocrites in the streets and in the marketplace. They’ve already received their reward! 3 But when you demonstrate generosity, do it with pure motives and without drawing attention to yourself. 4 Give secretly and your Father, who sees all you do, will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:1-4 The Passion)
Examine your motives! This is something that I want to do more and more consistently, not thinking about letting others know what I might do or trying to do more to just show off. Why do I give, why do I help others, why do I serve? What is really my motive? I know that God sees, and beyond that, that He is faithful to reward as He sees it appropriate.
Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of giving, of helping, of serving. There really is joy in doing those things. Thank You for Your provision and encouragement. AMEN
Father, if I had closed my eyes to my sin, I’m aware that You would have closed Your ears to my prayers. I will forever praise You my God who did not close Your heart when I prayed. Psalm 66
