Find A Trap

Scripture:

16 They decided to send some of their disciples, along with the supporters of Herod, to ask him this question: “Teacher, we know how honest you are. You teach about the way of God regardless of the consequences. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. (Matthew 22:16 NLT)

23 That same day some Sadducees stepped forward—a group of Jews who say there is no resurrection after death. They posed this question: 24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will be the brother’s heir.’ (Matthew 22:23-24 NLT)

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they thought up a fresh question of their own to ask him. 35 One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” (Matthew 22:34-36 NLT)

First they talked together about how they might kill Jesus. Then they thought that they could trap him into saying something that could get Him arrested. In the end, they just had to make up false charges. How much time did they spend trying to figure out how to make a trap for Jesus? What if they had spent just as much time actually opening their hearts and listening to Him teach the truth? I don’t want to spend time trying to “trap” anyone in something just to get them in trouble or to get even. I want to spend my time learning how to listen better, and obey more the truths that God shows me in His Word.

Thank You, Lord for the truth of Your Word. Thank You that it applies to me today, and that it will tomorrow; and if I will open my heart and listen, You will speak to me. I love You, the source of all truth. AMEN

Father, I thank You that I can have friendship with You because I fear You. Thank You that You share secrets of Your covenant with me. My eyes are always looking to You alone for help. Psalm 25
