The Truth

Scripture: John 18:37-38a (Click link for scripture in Bible Gateway)

37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” 38 “What is truth?” Pilate asked. (John 18:37-38a NLT)

“I came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true!” – Jesus

  • Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life… (John 14:6 NLT)
  • 44…The devil has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! (John 8:44-45 NLT)
  • 14 Then we will no longer be immature… We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. (Ephesians 4:14-15 NLT)
  • Jesus has an inseparable link to The Truth because he is The Truth!

There’s been a growing ache in my heart for the past several years. It’s caused by a lack of commitment to and love for truth! As we’ve become more polarized over ideologies, issues, and politics, I’ve seen so many Christians posting to social media, forwarding emails, and sharing inflammatory and slanderous memes, links, and articles in an effort to promote issues and candidates, but just as often to demonize others. I’ve written about this in several places and even provided resources in the way of links to fact-checking sites and places we can go to make sure what we’re passing along is true and the truth. Some have countered that the “fact-checking” sites are biased.

Here’s my proposal, friends: 1) Don’t throw away your integrity and credibility by passing along slander and lies. 2) Find your own accurate, unbiased fact-checking source or method. 3) Check the truth of everything before you post or share it. 4) If you can’t be head and heart sure, don’t post or share it! 5) If you discover you’ve posted something that’s not true, delete it and apologize to those who may have been affected by it.

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32 NLT)

Prayer:

Father, Please may we love the truth and reject the lie! For the Kingdom’s sake!
