The Right Time
Reading: 1 Timothy 6; Psalm 130
12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. 13 And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 15 For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. 1 Timothy 6:12-15 (NLT)
Paul finished off this great letter of counsel and instruction to young Pastor Timothy with a reminder that after all the advice is given and heeded, and after all the instructions are noted and obeyed, the most important thing of all is that Jesus is coming again.
Jesus is coming back, and then all our attitudes will be exposed, and all our motives will be revealed. All the work we’ve done will be tested, and found to be of temporary effect or of eternal impact.
For now, I need to stay busy at the work God has given me and be diligent in responding to the opportunities God sets before me. I need to be a man of godly character and righteous behavior. I need to do my best at what my hands find to do.
But most of all, I need to remember that Jesus is on his way, and that he is going to show up right on time.
Prayer:
Father, Please help me to live every day of my life in two worlds. Help me to live wisely and responsibly in the visible, temporal world, and at the same time to live with the assurance that Jesus is on his way and that he is going to show up right on time. Amen.
