The Lord Heard
The Lord Heard Them
Reading: Numbers 12-13; Psalm 90; Mark 2
1 While they were at Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he had married a Cushite woman. 2 They said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?” But the Lord heard them. (Numbers 12:1-2 NLT)
The Lord heard them. This touches on one of the most fundamental things we know about God – that he is omnipresent – but today it really resonated with me. In this case, Aaron and Miriam, Moses’ older brother and sister, started criticizing Moses and questioning his role in leadership of Israel. God overheard their talk.
I believe that God hears me every time I pray. But I also need to remember that God overhears my every conversation. He overhears every conversation I’m involved in and every conversation about me.
Take a look at this verse from Malachi: Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name. (Malachi 3:16 NLT)
God hears you and me. When we engage in conversations that are judgmental and harsh toward others of God’s children, we are completely out of tune with God’s gracious and loving heart toward them. When we speak words that encourage, comfort, and stir faith and hope in others, we are speaking in harmony with God’s heart of love. God hears.
Friends, please join me in this…Let’s set our hearts to speak words about God and each other that are in harmony with his heart toward us and others. Let’s speak words that bring a smile to God’s face as he listens – as he hears our conversations.
Prayer:
Father, Help me to be God-hearted and good-hearted in my conversations with my brothers and sisters and in my conversations with any of your kids, about any of your kids! May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14 NIV) Amen.
