Just Like You

Reading: Revelation 19-22 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.” (Revelation 19:10 NLT) But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!” (Revelation 22:9 NLT) In these final scenes of the Revelation Vision, John is guided by mighty angels who show him amazing events in heaven and earth, reveal thousands of years of future history, and speak God’s true words to him. John is nearly overcome by the angels’ greatness and authority, and as the Revelation unfolds, he bows down to worship each of them. Each of them forbids John from worshiping him and makes the same incredible statement: “I’m a servant just like you and your brothers and sisters who are witnesses of Jesus.” These powerful angels, entrusted with the task of showing and explaining God’s Revelation to John, are servants, just like John. And just like his brothers and sisters of his generation. And just like you and me in our generation. The timing is different, the drama of the events seems different, but you and I have the privilege of serving just like John, and just like the angels who played their role in the Revelation. Now it’s our turn, friends! Will you commit, along with me, to make the most of our opportunity, and to fulfill our responsibility, to be servants of God in our generation? Just like John! Prayer: Father, Thank you for allowing me the same identity as the mighty angels, the prophets, and John and his brothers and sisters! Thank you for allowing me to be a “servant of God!” Please help me to be faithful in my season of service as John was in his time. Help me to serve you as truly and faithfully as the angel-messengers who carry your word and serve your purpose. May I be sensitive, responsive, and obedient to hear your voice, speak your words, and share your Good News Message. As this year ends and a new year begins, may my friends and I serve wisely and well. Amen.
