Impossible For God
Reading: Micah 1-4; Hebrews 6 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. (Hebrews 6:18 NLT) I am a believer. I believe in God and in his Son Jesus Christ. I’m like the father of the demonized boy whose son Jesus healed who cried out: The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me not to doubt!” (Mark 9:24 NLT). I have questions and sometimes I have doubts, but I am a believer. One of the things that is foundational to my belief system is that God does not, in fact cannot, lie. Because I believe this about God – that it is impossible for him to lie – I can believe that the Bible, God’s Word, is true. Because the Bible is God’s Word and it is true, then I can believe that, as Paul reminded his son in the faith, Timothy: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (2 Timothy 3:16 NLT) Therefore, I can hold on to the hope that God’s Word gives me with great confidence. As always, there is much I don’t understand. But my hope in God through Christ is not based on understanding, it’s based on believing. That’s why it’s called faith! And because Jesus Christ is “The Truth” embodied, and because God our Father is a God who cannot lie, and whose word is Truth, I want to be a man of truth. May my words be true and trustworthy. May my Christian brothers and sisters and I love the truth and may we all refuse to believe and propagate lies. May we strive to be true and trustworthy in all we do and say! Prayer: Father, I want to be a truthful person. Because I value your truthfulness (Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life), I value honesty and truthfulness in myself and others. Please help me as I strive to speak the truth in love. Amen.
