Everything We Need – Godly Life Part 1

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:3-11 TPT (Click Link) Everything we could ever need for life and complete devotion to God has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness. (2 Peter 1:3 TPT) We’ve already been given everything we need to live a Godly life, a life of complete devotion to God. It’s already lavished on us, deposited in us by his power, because of his goodness, mercy, and love! I think we sometimes take the wrong approach in our efforts to live a Godly Life. We approach it as if all our effort, our prayers, our works of faith are about trying to get God to do something to us, for us, in us so we can at last become Godly. But we’ve been born again, friends! The effort we make isn’t so that we can become acceptable to God, because we already are! The work, the effort, the longing, the prayers, the discipline is so we can grow into the person we’re already born to be, already destined to become. When a baby daughter is born into your family, she’s never going to be more your child than she is the moment you first cradle her in your arms! She’s going to become more mature, she’s going to grow up, she’s going to be fed and clothed (and have her diapers changed) over and over again. She’s going to be taught and trained and disciplined and corrected and given more and more responsibility as she grows. But she will never be more your child than at the moment of birth! So let’s start this series on Living A Godly Life at the right starting point, friends! At our new birth, we’re God’s kids. We don’t become God’s kids at some future date by meeting targets, goals, criteria, and standards. We don’t have to have something shipped in, bolted on, or accessorized. We grow and develop what God’s divine power has already placed within us. We’re God’s kids now! God gave us a new heart, filled us with his Holy Spirit, accepted us into his family. That’s where we start! Where we’re headed from there is to live out, over a lifetime, everything that God put in us at the moment of our rebirth. Got it? Prayer: Father, Thank you for giving us everything we need to live a Godly Life of devotion to you. May we grow in our understanding of how to develop what you’ve already placed within us by your divine power. We want to honor you in all we do! For Jesus’ Sake!
