Don’t Worry, God Loves You (DW5)
Scripture: Romans 8:31-39 (Click Link For Scripture)
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:38 NLT)
Don’t add worrying about worrying to your list of things to worry about! Don’t add false guilt about worrying to the worries you already have!
But isn’t “Worry” a sin? If Jesus commands us not to worry and we worry, isn’t that a sin? And doesn’t worry mean we’re not trusting God? Let’s put this in perspective, friends.
The word translated “sin” in the New Testament is hamartia. It’s a term taken from Greek archery. It means “to miss the target.” So your archery coach says, “Shoot to hit the bulls-eye.” You shoot, you miss the whole target! Your coach, who is committed to making you a skillful archer, says, “OK, try again. This time keep your eye directly on the bulls-eye. Take a deep breath. Hold steady. Release the bowstring gently.” You shoot, and this time you hit the target! Your coach says, “Good job! Here’s a couple of adjustments to make. Now shoot again!”
Your archery coach is not trying to disqualify you! Your archery coach is not going to punish you! Your archery coach is not going to give up on you! Your archery coach is going keep you practicing and keep coaching you until you can consistently hit the target! And sometimes you even hit the bulls-eye!
Friends, we gotta stop underestimating God’s love for us! God loves us so much that he makes all this provision to help us deal with and overcome anxiety. He isn’t going to condemn us simply because it takes us a while to get there. It’s about whether we’re staying on the journey. It’s taking the next step.
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. (Colossians 3:15 NLT)
Prayer:
Father, Please help my friends and me to stop underestimating your love for us! Thank you for your patience! Thank you for your provision! Thank you for providing a way for us to walk free of debilitating worry and anxiety. We trust you! In Jesus’ Name!
