Discover God Is True
Scripture: John 3:31-36 (Click link for scripture in Bible Gateway)
31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else. 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Those who believe him discover that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.” (John 3:31–36 NLT)
This is still John speaking to his disciples about Jesus. Jesus is from heaven and we are of the earth. He is greater than anyone else. He testifies about what he has seen and heard. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. The Father loves his son and has put everything in his hands. Anyone who believes him has eternal life and anyone who doesn’t will never experience eternal life.
There’s so much content, so much truth, in what John is saying about Jesus here, but one thing absolutely leaped out at me this morning! This one thing is what I needed to hear from God today. It’s what I needed to put some things in perspective, to address some issues I’m wrestling with in real time. And I think it may just be what you need to hear, to contemplate, to lock on to. Here it is: “Those who believe him discover God is true!”
It’s not about getting all your questions answered or getting all your issues resolved. It’s not even about settling all your doubts! It’s about believing Jesus is exactly who he says he is; the Son of God and the Son of Man. It’s about believing that what Jesus says is true, is the truth, and is more true than what anyone else says, ever!
If we demand certainty about everything and if our faith doesn’t prompt us to think and act beyond ourselves and even beyond reason, we’ll end up with a religion that has an answer for everything except the things that really matter!
Prayer:
Father, Please help my friends and me to avoid the trap of certainty! Help us to remember why this thing is called “faith” and that in the Kingdom of God, seeing is not believing, but believing is seeing! Amen!
