Belongs To You
Belongs To You
Reading: Deuteronomy 19-21; Galatians 3
And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. (Galatians 3:29 NLT)
Paul was trying to help the Galatian believers understand the richness of the blessings available to them through simple faith in Jesus Christ. Their faith had been corrupted by the legalizers who insisted that faith was not enough – that they must also behave like Jews and keep the Jewish laws and traditions.
Paul states simply that it is faith, and faith alone, that makes us children of Abraham and inheritors of the famous promise, “I will bless you and you will be a blessing.”
2 “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3 NLT)
In today’s reading in Deuteronomy 21:5, Moses reminded the Levite priests that one of their privileges was “to minister before the Lord and to pronounce blessings in his name.”
As a child of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ, God has promised to bless me so that I can be a blessing to others. I can be a blessing through my example, through service to others, through sharing my material blessings, and by speaking blessings on others in the name of the Lord.
Think about this as you move through your day today: God’s covenant promise belongs to you! You are blessed to be a blessing. How will you be a blessing to those you interact with today—serving, sharing, speaking? Or maybe all three!
Will you pray this prayer with me….
Father, I receive by faith the promise you gave to Abraham. Please bless me so that I may be a blessing. Let the words I speak bring the blessings of heaven on those who hear them. May the words I speak and the work I do be a conduit of heaven’s blessing to others. Amen.
