Age of Empires

Reading: Ezekiel 29-32; Revelation 11 10 “ ‘God, the Master, says: “ ‘I’ll put a stop to Egypt’s arrogance. I’ll use Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to do it. 11 He and his army, the most brutal of nations, shall be used to destroy the country. They’ll brandish their swords and fill Egypt with corpses. (Ezekiel 30:10-11 MSG) Egypt was the first world empire. Then came Assyria, then Babylon, then the Medo-Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans. Then, as transportation and technology developed, the scope of world empires actually spanned the world with the Spanish and the British. But Egypt was finished, and would never be a world power again. Then I read today’s reading in Revelation: 15 The seventh Angel trumpeted. A crescendo of voices in Heaven sang out, The kingdom of the world is now the Kingdom of our God and his Messiah! He will rule forever and ever! 16 The Twenty-four Elders seated before God on their thrones fell to their knees, worshiped, 17 and sang, We thank you, O God, Sovereign-Strong, Who Is and Who Was. You took your great power and took over—reigned! 18 The angry nations now get a taste of your anger. The time has come to judge the dead, to reward your servants, all prophets and saints, Reward small and great who fear your Name, and destroy the destroyers of earth. (Revelation 11:15-18 MSG) Actually, all the empires will eventually come under the authority of Jesus Christ, and he will rule forever! Isn’t it good to know that it’s all going to work out according to God’s plan? I take encouragement today from the reminder that every empire of man that aspired to rule the world has fallen. I take encouragement today from the reminder that God knows in advance just how and when it will all unfold, and that he is truly the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Isn’t it good to know that someone is in charge and knows what’s going on!

Prayer: Father, Today I honor you as the divine ruler of all. Jesus Christ, I acknowledge you as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It’s a privilege beyond my understanding that you allow me to serve you. Thank you – from the bottom of my heart! Amen.
